HISTORY
In the year 1950’s, Barangay Buhisan formerly belonged to El Pardo together with Barangay Toong and Pamutan. Antonio Abelgas was the longest Barangay Captain in service, for almost 20 years , and Rustica J. Asid is the first woman barangay captain, reigning from 2002 up to the present (2010-2013).
The barangay's main attraction is the huge dam called the Buhisan Dam which is one of the major sources of water in Metro Cebu. The dam was built by the Americans in 1911, and because this was a mammoth structure, the natives believed that it was possessed by supernatural forces. It has been a practice of the people in the place to throw something into the damn to signify respect to the unseen creature in the dam. It is the belief of the natives that throwing something into the dam is an assurance of protection from bad spirits. BUHISAN is a Bisayan term which means giving something in exchange of what one has done to others.
The Republic Act (RA) 9486 or Central Cebu Protected Landscape (CCPL) Law, includes the Buhisan Watershed (630 hectares). Tours and tree plantings from different sectors are now on-going in Buhisan Watershed Ecotourism project vicinities. This is a joint project with the City Government (LGU including barangays: Buhisan, Toong, Pamutan and Sapangdaku), MCWD, PBSP, CUSW and DENR.
