“Honesty and humility” are two of the notable values highlighted by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama in his short message during the memorial lecture dedicated to his grandfather, the late Don Vicente Rama.
In line with the city’s 75th Charter Day Anniversary, the Don Vicente Rama Memorial Lecture was presented based on the life of the man who made Cebu City what it is today.
Mayor Rama attended the yearly lecture which was held last February 23, 2012 at the Samuel Mc Clintock Hall in Cebu Normal University.
Now on its 10th year, the City Mayor commended Dr. Lelani Echaves-Paredes for accepting the invitation to be the guest speaker for the said event.
“My sincerest gratitude to the speaker, Dr. Lelani Echaves-Paredes, for being the guest speaker of the lecture. It is not easy to be depicting and talking about somebody you haven’t met,” Rama said.
A pacesetting communicator and one of the 100 Cebuano Trailblazers honoured by the Provincial Government, Echaves-Paredes talked about the life and career of Don Vicente Rama and the prominent values that gave birth to the City of Cebu.
“Vicente Rama faced controversial political opposition when he proposed on making Cebu a chartered city. This opposition was comprised mainly of Cebuano political leaders even if it was the time when Cebuanos needed to unite,” shared Paredes in her lecture.
Tara Triztina Rama, niece of the City Mayor, gave the response to the lecture in behalf of the Rama clan. A lawyer like her father, Atty. Ernesto Rama, she shared that being a Rama is a blessing to her.
“Public service is good governance. We should be proud of being a unified, well-informed Cebuanos,” she added.
Mayor Rama urged everyone to remember the great doings of the Father of Charter Day. He also underscored Vicente Rama’s traits of honesty, humility and good governance.
