To address the ever-growing needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Cebu City Mayor Michael L. Rama signed the Executive Order increasing the city’s annual financial aid to them to P3, 000.
In a meeting held last week, Mayor Rama appointed Councilor Jose C. Daluz III to process the immediate release of their financial aid with the target distribution date set in June. As to date, there are 7,000 persons
To address the ever-growing needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Cebu City Mayor Michael L. Rama signed the Executive Order increasing the city’s annual financial aid to them to P3, 000.
with disabilities who are accredited by the Cebu City Government and will receive the said aid starting this year.
“We have a clear budget this year amounting to P25 million. The budget is sourced from the one percent of the Internal Revenue Allotment of the city as mandated under Republic Act 9442 or the amended Magna Carta for Persons with disabilities of 2006”, Social Worker PEO II Virginia L. Piccio.
According to Mayor Rama, he believes that PWDs need financial aid due to their condition.It was learned that apart from the financial aid, the city will also provide canes, wheelchairs and other physical assistance devices.
Likewise, the city also provides legal assistance to PWDs who have experienced discrimination and abuse as well as counselling and continuous campaign for the implementation of the provisions of RA 9442.
The city plans to provide livelihood assistance to those PWDs who cannot work in establishments and offices with their condition.
