Cebu City Mayor Michael Lopez Rama joined in the ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony as honoured guest of the Robinsons Land Corporation's (RLC) 38th and biggest mall outside Metro Manila to rise in the North Reclamation Area of Cebu City held last July 26, 2012.
"When I entered the Cebu City government in 1992, I promised to myself to do something to help improve the North Reclamation Area, I am not traditional politician whose promises are made to be broken but a public servant who makes things happen. The P100M allocation for the road concreting and asphalting project in this particular area, that we have just recently opened for use to the public blessed with ribbon cutting ceremony made those promises a reality," thus said Mayor Rama in his message. He further reiterated the plan to conduct a fun run in the North Reclamation Road to gain people’s awareness in the recent development of what was used to be a neglected area and also held it there instead in the major streets of the city that causes traffic congestion. The Robinsons Galleria is like a beautiful flower added to the beautiful garden - the City of Cebu, the Mayor added.
When interviewed by BARUGG, and asked about why they will put up their biggest mall in Cebu considering the saturation off malls in the city, RLC President Frederick Go said that they are confident in ramping up such investment in Cebu City because they believe in its robust economic growth, a vibrant retail industry and a booming tourism sector.
The Robinsons Galleria Cebu will be the third RLC Mall in the city after the Robinson's Fuente and Robinson's Cybergate. It will be a mixed-use development which will include the first Cebu branch of gohotel.ph as well as office spaces for business process outsourcing firms. The 7-storey commercial building will rise on a 4.6 hectare lot along General Maxilom Avenue and will have a gross floor area of about 156,000 square meters (SQM). The hotel will have 153 rooms, the BPO offices will occupy three floors with over 9,000sqm of leasable space, while the mall will have a gross leasable area of 56,000sqm spread on four levels.,/p>
The event was also attended by other RLC Executives and personnel, with Mayor Rama were Cebu City Councilor Joey Daluz and some Department Heads, and the media among others. Moreover, the Php5 Billion edifice is slated for completion and opening in March 2014.
