The Cebu City Government through its Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission will commemorate the 134th Birth Anniversary of the late President Sergio Osmena Sr. on Sunday, September 9, 2012.

A Holy Mass is scheduled at 7:30 which will be officiated by Monsignor Roberto Alesna at the President Sergio Osmena Sr. marker site along corner Lapulapu Street and Osmena Boulevard.

It will be followed by a short program highlighted by a floral offering led by the heirs of the late President.

Former President Osmena was one of the two Visayan leaders to become the chief executive of the Philippine Republic while the other one was Carlos Garcia of Bohol. He served as a provincial governor of Cebu, then House Speaker, Senator and Vice President before he became President from 1944 until 1946.

By virtue of Republic Act (RA) 6953, September 9 is declared a special non-working holiday in the province of Cebu and its component cities.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama cannot attend the event as he will be going to Xiamen China for an official visit along with 15 village chiefs and some City Hall heads starting tomorrow September 6 until Tuesday September 11. Walking the talk to set aside politics and focus on real work, Mayor Rama plans to covert the North Reclamation Area into Don Serging Osmeña Business Park in honor of the late President.
