MLR Welcomes Librarian & Arts Congress Delegates

(PIO, CEBU CITY) Cebu City Mayor Michael L. Rama, welcomes some 1,000 delegates from the different regional council representatives for the annual Philippine Librarian Association, Inc. (PLAI) national congress held at the Arctic Hall of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

On his welcome address, Mayor Rama thanks the delegates and its organizer for choosing the city as host; where cebuanos always believe in making friends and expanding linkages just like in his administration promoting togetherness, oneness, love and peace.

“In my college days, being in library is my way of having peace, making friends and expanding my knowledge… book is not there to be destroy but to promote compassion, love and learning for you to make a difference in life” Rama said.

He also stressed that Librarians should be the means to promote love and respect among its readers since peace and tranquility must always be observe in the library.

Arts & Culture:

On the same day, Mayor Mike Rama also greeted around 300 participants for the 1st International Conference on Visayan Arts and Culture at the SM City Trade Hall.

In his speech, he proudly shared about the family artistic background as his grand father, the late Don Vicente Rama who used to write poetry and his daughter Micheline Rama who was also inspired by art paintings and now a graduate of Fine Arts in UP Diliman.

He also encourages the participants to stay focused and give heart on their masterpieces, don’t let destruction stops but be responsive. “Let arts & culture to be spread like wildfire so when it get into dwellings, we will be able to see a better country.” Mayor Rama said.
