Mayor Rama welcomes Russian Ambassador

(PIO CEBU CITY) - Cebu City Mayor Michael Lopez Rama welcomed the Russian Ambassador to the Philippines, HE Nikolay R. Kudashev in a courtesy call held at Mayor’s VIP lounge at the 8th floor of the Executive building last June 21, 2011.
Said activity is in connection with the 35th year of Philippine-Russian relations celebrated on the same date. It also symbolizes the renewal of being a sister’s city for both parties.
Mayor Rama said, “In behalf of Cebu City, I welcome you and hoping this would not be the last but a beginning for our meaningful relationship in an international arena.”
"I am not alien to your country, for I have been there for a side trip in an international cruise," he added.

Urban Poor conducts rally

(PIO CEBU CITY) - Less than a hundred poor group members from the (NAKABUS) Nasudnong Katawhang Kabus and (PM) Partido ng Manggagawa conducted a rally last May 30, 2011 in front of the Cebu City hall.
The group aim to call on the local government for a comprehensive reform of the housing program for the poor and a six months moratorium on demolitions, eviction and foreclosure. Among the affected barangays who partook in the rally were Brgys. Mabolo, Kamagayan, Lorega, Ermita, Cogon Ramos, Carreta, Luz and Zapatera.

BCMFI unveils tarp, blesses pathways

(PIO CEBU CITY) - The BCMFI (Beautify Cebu Movement Foundation, Incorporated) led by Dame Mariqueta Salimbangon, unveils its tarpaulin along Fuente Osmena Circle and blesses the front pathways of the still under-construction Banco de Oro office last June 10, 2011.
An invocation started at 4pm then followed by the singing of Philippine National Anthem.
Mayor Michael Rama welcomed everyone, “This is a gathering of people with great vision, charitable hearts, I congratulate the organizers for the initiative, let us remember that if the members will always depend and look up to the leader, nothing will happen, but if everyone will do their share something will occur,” he said.

SK holds ISKOLAR-BOS

(PIO CEBU CITY) - The Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Cebu City conducted the Integrated Sangguniang Kabataan Organizational Leadership And Re-orientation - Basic Orientation Seminar (ISKOLAR-BOS) from May 17 to June 11, 2011 at the Alta Cebu Garden in Cordova, Cebu.
The ISKOLAR-BOS aims to support and strengthen the SK operation of local officials; encourage broader integration of the principles of the SK into all youth activities; maximize the knowledge, skills and resources acquired by the SK, straighten the moral values of the SK consistent with the four pillars of politics of services such as Maka-Diyos, Maka-Tao, Maka-Bayan at Maka-Kalikasan, the theory of principle centered leadership and developmental politics; to assist SK leaders in the formulation of local youth agenda and a plan of action that is consistent with Philippine National objectives, the tenets of new politics and reformation of SK; and lastly to develop the SK leaders into self-reliant, dynamic and creative community leaders and agents of change.

Carbon Market undergoes changes

(PIO CEBU CITY) - In line with the orderliness and cleanliness advocacy of Mayor Michael Rama, in which part of it is to make beautiful what is ugly, Carbon Market, known to be a dirty and traffic problem-laden area, is now a wide and well-organized market place.
Socorro Cavanlet, a vendor exclaimed that, “With the proper implementation of the market policies, at first we think it’s an inconvenience on our part but soon enough, we’ve noticed the changes and we realized it is for everyone’s [benefit].”
“There’s really a big difference between Carbon before and Carbon now,” she added.
