CEBU CITY, Philippines – Bearing the theme, “We Make Change Work for Women,” the City Government of Cebu headed by Mayor Tommy Osmeña thru the Women’s and Family Affairs Commission (CCWFAC) observes the Women’s Month celebration this entire month of March 2017.
Maricar Tariman of CCWFAC said that series of activities are lined-up in the 80 Barangays in Cebu City for the celebration.
Last March 1, as Opening Salvo, a Simultaneous Display of Banners and Streamers were conducted. This was followed by a Women’s Congress.
As part of the celebration, the “Istorya Ng Pag-asa” was launched in Cebu City Social Hall on March 4. It was graced by Philippine Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Santo Tomas Robredo.
Actress Monique Wilson led the “One Billion Rising” a dance event in the Plaza Sugbo on March 6, while STD-HIV-AIDS Forum was held on March 7 in the Cebu City Social Hall.
During the observance of the International Women’s Day celebration on March 8, CCWFAC launched an exhibit featuring empowered women in different fields and those who contribute to the advancement of other women in society. The exhibit is open to everyone for free held in the lobby of Cebu City Hall. It will run until March 31.
On March 10 a free pap smear for 150 women were given on a first come, first served basis, while on March 11 a Forum on Understanding Women’s Sexuality and Reproductive Health and Rights was conducted.
Other activities include Financial Awareness and Small Business Management Training for OFWs on March 15 in Cebu City Social Hall.
On March 20-25 will be an “Economic Week” where Women Product Display and Bazaar and Food Festival are set in the Plaza Sugbu.
A Women’s Health Awareness campaign will also be conducted in the different Barangays on March 23 while a Multi-sectoral Forum is set on March 24 in Cebu City Social Hall.
