CEBU CITY, Philippines – It will be an extended long weekend this week.
This after the weekend on October 29 and 30 Saturday and Sunday, the next day October 31 Monday is declared as a special non-working holiday.
By virtue of Proclamation number 1105, October 31, 2016 is declared as an additional special non-working holiday to the All Saints Day celebration in the entire country.
November 1 which falls on Tuesday this year is a regular special non-working holiday in observance with the All Saints Day celebration.
However, as of press time, there is no announcement yet from the Malacañan Palace declaring November 2 Wednesday which is an All Souls Day as a Holiday.
Regular work in all offices in the Cebu City Government will resume on November 2 but personnel from the Frontline Offices will be on duty for the Oplan Kalag-Kalag operations to ensure safety of everyone that will be on prowl on bad elements. CEBU CITY, Philippines – The city government here headed by Mayor Tomas R. Osmeña through its Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC) is getting ready for the observance of the All Saints and All Souls Day on November 1-2, 2016.
In its regular meeting Monday this week, the CCDRRMC activated the “Oplan Kalag-Kalag” to ensure safety of everyone during the annual celebrations.
CCDRRMC head for operations Mr. Harold Alcontin, who was the acting presiding officer said that the city’s preparation included putting up of Command Posts in all Cemeteries and Bus Terminals and Ports, establish traffic management, conduct risk assessment and inspection, installation of signage and layout, set up emergency plans, take care of crowd control and ensure before and after care, among others.
Alcontin further pointed out that more than 2,000 personnel from the Cebu City Police Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Auxiliaries and Volunteers from the different offices in the Cebu City Government and civic organizations will be deployed for the Oplan Kalag-Kalag operations.
The CCDRRMC also created a Task Force to conduct risk and hazard assessment and inspection in the different Cemeteries in Cebu City next week as part of their preparations.
Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and K9s will also be deployed to ensure no bladed weapons, alcoholic beverages and explosives can get through during the Oplan Kalag-Kalag operations.
Moreover, the public are advised to be vigilant and report suspicious persons and activities and be part of ensuring a safe and successful All Saints and All Souls Day celebrations. (By: Greggy Jiggs P. Senados/Cebu City Public Information Office)
