CEBU CITY, Philippines – A Team from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) from the National Office in Manila are now in Cebu City in the entire month of March this year.

The group headed by Ms. Liza Socorro Manzano, supervising science research specialist of MGB will conduct a detailed Geohazard mapping for sinkholes and subsidence hazards in the 80 Barangays comprising Cebu City.

In a Courtesy Call with Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmeña on March 3 Friday afternoon, the group presented to the Mayor their output in 2016 which is a detailed landslide and flood hazard map of Cebu City.

The Mayor thanked the MBG Team for helping the city and providing comprehensive and updated Geohazard maps which can be used by the city in local planning in disaster management.

Looking back, in August to September 2016 the group also went in Cebu City and conducted the “Training-Workshop on Understanding 1:10,000 Scale Geohazard Maps” in collaboration with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the City Government of Cebu. It was participated by Barangay Officials and Disaster Focals from various villages and offices in Cebu City.

On Monday afternoon, March 6, the MGB Team will also conduct Briefing on the detailed Geohazard Map to the Cebu City Government Department Heads and members of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC).
