CEBU CITY, Philippines - In order to observe protocol and to have one language in disaster preparation and response, the Cebu City Government through its Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) conducted the 1st ever Communicator's Conference on July 13-14 this year.

At least 60 Team Leaders and Unit Heads from the different communicator's organizations and offices attended the two-day activity held at the Cebu City Social Hall.

Mr. Nagiel Bañacia, head of CCDRRMO emphasized that it is very important to have one language in disaster preparation and response to have proper coordination and not waste resources during disaster and emergencies.

During the activity, National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Central Visayas regional director Jesus Laureno tackled the Communicator's Network of Region 7 and underscored on the need for integrated command system especially during emergency and disaster.

For his part, Engr. Bill Peralta, assessor also from NTC Regional Office 7, he discussed the Legal Basis, Licenses and Permits in using Radios based from Executive Order number 564 and Republic Act 3864 or "An Act Providing for the Regulation of Radio Stations and Radio Communications in the Philippine Islands, and for other Purposes."

Other speakers included Federation of Volunteers through Radio Communication (FVRC) in Region 7 president Maritoni Corominas who shared her journey and their best practices, and also CCDRRMO head for operations Harold Alcontin who conducted a Basic Incident Command System (ICS) training.

The participants also underwent a workshop on the establishment of "Response Protocol" in times of emergencies, disasters, and planned events, among others as an output of the conference.

Moreover, the activity was conducted as part of the series of activities for the National Disaster Resiliency Month celebration in Cebu City in the entire month of July bearing the theme, "4Ks: Kamalayan sa Kahandaaan, Katumbas ay Kaligtasan."
