CEBU CITY, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) officially declared the start of the Summer Dry and Hot Season yesterday April 5, 2017 Wednesday.
In an interview with Netherlen Saletrero, Weather Specialist 1 of PAGASA Visayas, she emphasized that PAGASA also terminated the northeast monsoon season or “Amihan” as there are changes in pressure with accompanying changes in wind pattern.
Saletrero said that the dry hot season will be experienced in the Philippines during the months of April and May this year, adding that rainfall comes around the month of June which is also the start of the rainy season.
PAGASA advised the public that the weather will gradually become warmer and drier in the coming days because of the dominance of the extended ridge of high pressure area and easterlies.
“The resurgence of the Northeast Monsoon that affected Northern and Central Luzon during the last few days has weakened. Latest weather map analysis and numerical model outputs indicate the establishment of North Pacific High Pressure Area during weekend,” PAGASA noted.
PAGASA also bared that Mindanao will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the northward migration of the inter-tropical convergence zone or passage of easterly waves.
The public are likewise warned of the moderate to occasionally rough coastal waters particularly over the Eastern section of Luzon and Visayas that will occur due to moderate to strong easterly winds. PAGASA will closely monitor the weather conditions and regular updates and advisories shall be issued as appropriate. (By: Greggy P. SenadosCity of Cebu, Public Information Office)
