CEBU CITY, Philippines - To ensure safe conduct of ASEAN Ministerial Meetings set in Cebu City this week, the Cebu City Government headed by Mayor Tommy Osmeña thru its Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC) has started deploying its operatives and laid out security plans.
Harold Alcontin, Operations Head of CCDRRMC who presided the 27th Regular Meeting of CCDRRMC on Monday April 3 highlighted possible strategies to prevent the most prevalent threats to occur such as Flooding, Bombing, Vehicle accidents, Earthquake and Typhoon, to mention some.
Alcontin also tackled all plans and contingencies to guarantee the safety of the delegates and visitors in the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Cebu this week, as well as safety and deployment plan for the Holy Week celebration in Cebu City next week.
"We are ready, makaingon ta nga sakto-sakto gyud ang preparation because of the Incident Command System (ICS) nga atong gi put in place, naka-prepare ta sa atong Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR). Nindot kaayo atong set-up, (We are ready,we can tell that our preparation is enough. We are prepared with our EPR because of the ICS that we have in place. We have a very good set-up.)," said Alcontin.
To ensure the systematic application of the standard operating procedures and guidelines of the emergency preparedness, task groups were created. It is composed of inter-agency representations coming from the Department of Health, Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Local Government Units and various volunteers for search, rescue and retrieval, medical emergency management, among others.
The task groups are responsible for the overall preparedness and response against all threats within their jurisdiction in the six staging areas namely Shangri-La Mactan, Lapu-Lapu Fire Station, Mandaue City Fire Station, Block 27 Cebu City Lot, IT Park Province Lot and Central Command (CentCom) in Camp Lapu-Lapu.
Furthermore, the CCDRRMC has laid out security plans and deployment of quick response unit in all People's Point of Interest in the celebration of the Holy Week this year. These include Tabor Hills, Good Shepherd and Talavera House of Prayer this coming April 10-16. This is to ensure the safety of the public and to have a solemn, religious and momentous celebration.
