February is not just love month, we also celebrate this as the National Arts Month.
With this, the Cebu City Government through the Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (CHAC) has prepared various activities for artists and art lovers for the 3rd Cebu City Arts Week which will run from February 11-16 at Plaza Independencia which officially kicks off the city's 82nd Cebu City Charter Day Celebration.
An opening number from the Cebu City Cultural Dance Troupe followed by a classical performance by the Cebu City Sinfonia led by Maestro David Anne of Belgium formally opened the weeklong nightly activities at the Plaza Independencia.
Other activities will also take place like mini concerts, drama sponsored by the Cebu City Office on Substance Abuse and Prevention (COSAP), cultural dances with the Sugbu Dancers and Cebu City Cultural Dance Troupe.
On the 14th of February there will be a comedy drama wherein spectators are given the chance to share their poem or "balak" at the end of every act, with the theme, "Gugmang Minghoy: Maoy nga balak, balak nga makamaoy".
Art workshops will also be made available for kids aged 8-15, and an on the spot painting contest with lecturers.
On the last day of the week-long celebration, February 16, there will be a submission of entries for the "Kinaiyang Sugboanon Painting Contest", a studio-work painting contest that shows Cebuanos' daily lives and or Cebuano positive values, living culture and tradition. Judging of entries will be at 1:00-3:00 in the afternoon of the same day.
