Ten awardees for the Outstanding Farmers 2018 of Cebu City thanked the Cebu City Government through the City Agriculture Department (CAD) for the assistance they have extended to the farmers.
Teofanis Englis of Barangay Cambinocot, who was awarded as an Outstanding Rice Grower, said that he felt honored to be one of the awardees and that the recognition means a lot to the farmers.
Englis recalled that there were a lot of struggles in the production of agricultural products especially when it comes to irrigation, but because of the city’s assistance to the farmers, they now have better opportunities in producing quality farm outputs through irrigation programs.
He added that the city government through CAD, has always given its full support to the farmers through the farm technicians and providing farm inputs and hybrid seedlings that could adapt to climate change and are high yielding.
Englis added that farming has always been a big factor in helping him send his son to school who now has a degree in Engineering.
Other awardees for the Outstanding Farmers of 2018 are Diomedes E. Panaginip of Barangay Sudlon II who was chosen as an Outstanding Vegetable Grower of South District, for the North District, Eric Banote of Barangay Lusaran got the award. Outstanding Cutflower Grower of South District is Divina Lastimosa and Remegias Gabunada from Barangay Sirao for the North District. Samuel Navarro of Babag II got the award as Outstanding Livestock Grower.
The Outstanding Mango Grower awardee came from Barangay Lusaran, Cha Goc-ong while the Outstanding Corn Grower was awarded to Leonardo Tugado of Barangay Guba. Gerald Cantarona from Barangay Pamutan got the award as the Outstanding Ornamental Grower. There is also an award given to the Outstanding Agri-entrepreneur from Barangay Adlaon, Jovencia Arcilla.
The awardees received a Plaque of Recognition and a cash prize of Ten Thousand Pesos (Php 10,000.00) each. (Jessa L. Celocia & Levy Sayago/PIO)
