Cebu City Government declares the entire city under State of Calamity due to the effects of El Niño phenomenon after a special session conducted earlier today.
Declaring the city under state of calamity is needed in order to allow the city government to utilize the calamity funds to help the barangays affected by drought, especially the upland barangays. There are already twenty eight (28) mountain barangays affected by the phenomenon with damage to agricultural products already amounting to 15 million pesos.
City Councilor Dave Tumulak said that there is a delay in the declaration of State of Calamity because they needed the list of affected barangays from Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) which they just submitted yesterday.
Tumulak assured everyone that the city government is doing its best to alleviate the situation and lessen the ill effects of the dry spell. (Jessa L. Celocia & Margie Bulado/PIO)
