(CEBU CITY - Public Information Office) Celebrating diversity in culture and inculcating nationalism and volunteerism among the youth, the 7th Multi-city Youth eXchange (MYX) held in this Queen City of the South turned out to be a huge success.

MYX which was known before as the Pinoy Dutch Explore is a 3-week youth exchange and immersion program held this year in this city and participated by 12 Dutch young leaders and 4 adult leaders with 8 Belgian young leaders and 2 adult leaders held from July 10-30. The delegates are housed by foster families in the city.

The activity aimed at promoting knowledge-sharing, cross-cultural understanding, and people-to-people connection under the bigger framework of sister city relationship between Cebu City, and two European cities such as the Haarlemmermeer City in The Netherlands and the Kortrijk City in Belgium. It is organized by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Incorporated (RAFI) in partnership with the Cebu City government.

In 2011 the Pinoy Dutch Explore was changed into MYX when delegates from Kortrijk, Belgium joined the activity. Last year, at least 14 Cebuano young leaders were also sent in Kortrijk, Belgium for a 20 days community immersion from April 14 to May 6.

Looking back, the Cebu City government headed by re-elected Cebu City Mayor Michael Lopez Rama hosted a Welcome Dinner in honor of the MYX delegates last July 10, 2013 Wednesday, the first day of the activity held at the Sinulog Hall of the City Public Library and Museum Building, along Osmena Boulevard, this city.

In behalf of Mayor Rama who has a prior commitment, City Councilor James Anthony Cuenco, the Chairman for Committee on Tourism, International and Local Relations, Arts and Culture, formally welcomed the delegation and thanked them for the continuous partnership with city. City Councilor Mary Ann de los Santos also graced the event. During their short stay, the group is assisted by the city government of Cebu through its Protocol Office headed by Mr. Rayan Necitas Echevarria.

Meanwhile, the significant happenings for this year is that a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing was opted by which the organizers and stakeholders inked an agreement with the Young Heroes for Cebu (YHC) for them to organize the annual event for at least three years starting this year.

The delegates has also sponsored at least three (3) Gawad Kalinga houses located in Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City, Cebu and conducted a Medical Mission in Barangay Guba, one of the villages of this city last July 26, Friday.
